There are distinct differences between Invisalign® and traditional braces. There are even distinct differences between Invisalign® and “clear braces.” The primary difference is that Invisalign® uses a series of clear plastic aligner trays to straighten your teeth. Both traditional and clear braces use brackets attached to the teeth and connected by wires.

Not only does this make them more visible, it can make the process of correcting malocclusion much more uncomfortable.

Adjustments

With traditional braces, adjustments require a manual tightening of the wire between the braces. This tightening pulls on the brackets to move your teeth over a period of time. With Invisalign® there is no “tightening,” but rather a gently movement of the teeth brought about by progressively straightened aligners.

Approximately every two weeks, you will return to our Grove City, Ohio office to receive your new set of aligners and continue the gentle movement of your teeth. This method is less invasive, faster, and does not result in the several days of discomfort that can accompany the adjustment of traditional braces.

Additional Benefits

Additional benefits of Invisalign® vs. Traditional braces include:

  • The aligners are removable making tasks like eating and tooth cleaning easier
  • The aligners will not catch on gums and sensitive tissue in your mouth
  • Clear plastic aligners are much less noticeable than wire and bracket braces

During your initial consultation with Dr. Sheridan, these and other benefits of Invisalign® can be discussed in full.
